LOOPER APP LESSON PLAN
Looper App Lesson Plan
Everett Fristensky
Specific Learning Outcomes:
The leaner generates idea from a variety of sources for creating music by exploring a wide range of resources and stimuli (e.g., motifs, riffs, music and music excerpts, technical challenges from existing repertoire, movement, images, sound, stories, poetry, artifacts, technology, multimedia) to ignite ideas and questions (Page 30)
The learner experiments with, develops, and used ideas for creating music by engaging in cycles of experimentation and idea generation to consider possibilities and test out end elaborate ideas (Page 32)
The learner experiments with, develops, and used ideas for creating music by selecting, synthesizing, and organizing promising ideas, motifs, themes, and music elements to arrange, improvise, and compose, and for music production and creation (Page 32)
Measurable Goals:
Introduce students to the concept of “looping”
Explain the working of the Loopy HD App and give students the information necessary to use the app to complete their unit final project
Activating: Play video, Reggie Watts performance (10 min)
Acquiring: (10 min)
Demonstrate the use of the app. Play the demo video that I created and then walk them through the controls of the app.
Applying: (40 min)
Break the kids into groups. Give them time to play around with the app, get comfortable with the controls and the interface, experiment with the different sounds they can record and ultimately have fun with it (15 min)
Start them off with 6 tracks
Once they are comfortable with using it, challenge them as a group to come up with a rhythm, harmony and some kind of melodic line over a repeating sequence (25 min)
Assessing student learning: This is entirely formative assessment at this stage. The purpose of this lesson is to introduce the students to the app and prepare them to complete a similar task as their final individual project once we have time to integrate theory elements such as harmony and a chord progression. I will circulate while they are experimenting with the app and ask if anyone is having issues. By working closely with individuals or small groups and can ascertain where students are in their learning and make adjustments depending on the situation.
Accommodating student learning needs: Some students may not have access to a smart device, or may not have the $5.99 to pay for the app. I would hopefully have access to school budget to assist with the payment and by having students work in groups I can assure that students without devices aren’t left behind. Some groups may work at different paces. If a group finishes before others I will simply have them start over and try to find a different style or feel to their loop. Or, I can show them how to work with more than six tracks at a time and they can add more layers.
